BAXIDIL SOLUBLE takes advantage of the synergism which is maximized by combining trimethoprim and sulfadiazine in a 1:5 ratio, resulting to broader spectrum of action and more effective treatment.

BAXIDIL SOLUBLE’s synergistic combination acts by inhibiting the target organism at 2 important points in their metabolism. Bacteria have to produce their own folic acid and are not able to utilize pre-formed folic acid. This gives trimethoprim-sulfadiazine a wide safety margin since animals use only pre-formed folic acid. Trimethoprim preferentially inhibits the formation of dihydrofolate reductase by acting as false substrate to the bacteria. Sulfadiazine inhibits the reduction of tetrahydrofolic acid into dihydrofolic acid, an essential step in the formation of folic acid by the bacteria. By preferentially acting on these 2 consecutive steps, bacteria cannot produce folic acid, thus resulting to their death.

INDICATION:

BAXIDIL SOLUBLE’S synergistic antibiotic combination makes it highly indicated for the treatment and prevention of respiratory and systemic infections, particularly infectious coryza, CRD-E.coli complex, colibacillosis, pullorum disease, fowl cholera and coccidiosis in poultry and fighting cocks. In swine, BAXIDIL SOLUBLE can be used as an effective treatment for post-weaning scouring, MMA, foot rot, salmonellosis, arthritis, pneumonia and greasy pig disease. In ruminants, it can be used as treatment for bacterial pneumonia and enteritis in calves.

CONTRAINDICATION: Do not give to severely dehydrated animals, pregnant animals and in those suffering from renal disease.

Dosage and Administration:

· Prevention: Mix 1 tsp (3g) per gallon of water for 5-7 days.
· Treatment: Mix 2 tsp (6g) per gallon of drinking water for 5 days.
