Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG)
Mycoplasma gallisepticum causes a slow onset of chronic respiratory disease in chickens and turkeys. The infection rate is high but the severity and duration of the disease is affected by other factors such as infectious bronchitis, E. coli and stress due to changes in the weather.
In layers and breeders feed intake and egg production are depressed. In broilers there is a decrease in production.
Mycoplasma gallisepticum can spread by both the vertical and horizontal routes, and indirectly though contaminated equipment, people and infected wild birds. The disease is more difficult to eliminate in mixed age and free-range flocks. Eradication is possible with good biosecurity and routine serological monitoring.
Where pullets are raised free of Mycoplasma gallisepticum infection and there is a risk the pullets may become infected during lay, then it is standard to vaccinate the flock at 10 – 12 weeks of age with one dose of MG-Bac.
For vaccination of healthy chickens as an aid in the prevention of disease caused by Mycoplasma Gallisepticum (MG). The vaccine contains killed Mycoplasma Gallisepticum bacteria in an oil emulsion.
Dosage and Administration
Inject 0.5mL subcutaneously for chickens 1 to 10 weeks of age using aseptic technique. If 10 weeks of age or older, chickens may be vaccinated either subcutaneously or intramuscularly. The vaccination program should be completed prior to the point of lay. For optimum results, vaccinate twice, allowing at least 4 weeks between vaccinations. Revaccinate chickens during molt before the second laying period.

Caution
In case of accidental human injection seek immediate medical attention. Warm to 22ºC and shake well before use. Do not vaccinate broilers or meat producing turkeys by the intramuscular route of administration; use subcutaneously. If chickens are vaccinated during lay, a drop in egg production may occur.
The manufacturer recommends that chickens are vaccinated at least 42 days prior to slaughter. Use required doses of vaccine when first opened and dispose of vaccine container and all unused contents in an approved manner. See full directions on enclosed sheet entitled “In Case of Accidental Self-Injection of Oil Emulsion Vaccine”.
